A New Year's Resolution: Memorize

Maybe you've heard of people who memorize large chunks—even whole books—of the Bible.  It takes a lot of discipline and commitment, but it can be done.  Recently blogger Tim Challies interviewed Ryan Ferguson (HT: Justin Taylor) who recited all of Hebrews 9 and 10 at the WorshipGod conference in 2006.  Don't miss the videos of him reciting at the end of the post!

This is a fascinating interview; may it inspire you to memorize Scripture, whether it is a few verses or a whole book!

If you are interested, there is a great guide to the extended memorization of Scripture available from First Baptist Church of Durham.  Get it here.

What is the longest section you have ever memorized?

Probably Psalm 23 (that one's pretty easy, though, as you hear it all the time)...I definitely want to find others, though! (Isaiah 53 might be a good one to start with)

I memorized the book of James (except for the last 8 verses), two years ago for school. Jacob did it with me as well (the whole middle school was assigned it.)That was definitely the longest passage I have memorized.
