Our Purpose and Core Values

Statement of Purpose

Our passion is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
Psalm 115:1  1 Corinthians 10:31

Sovereign Grace Church exists for this purpose. And we don’t just exist…this is our passion! Our purpose is God-centered and not man-centered. Our lives are about glorifying God and living in a way that draws attention to him and brings praise to him. This is why we were created! But it is not just about doing the right things. There is a relationship that God has brought us into that will extend for all eternity. And this relationship is our greatest joy!

Core Values

Scripture is our only authoritative standard for all we think, say, and do.
Isaiah 66:2b  2 Timothy 3:16

This is our starting place. Scripture is the ONLY authoritative standard for our lives - not experts, or experience or feelings. The only place that shows us how to glorify and enjoy God is Scripture. The only revelation of God is in Scripture, and His word is our standard. It measures us in everything we think, say and do. God esteems those who tremble at His word, and we want to be a church that is esteemed by God.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is our central message and only hope.
2 Timothy 1:10  1 Corinthians 15:1-8

The gospel is of first importance to us. The story of the Bible climaxes in the message of the gospel. And the message of the gospel is the biography of God’s own Son - Jesus Christ: his descent from heaven to earth, his virgin birth, his sinless life, his death on a cruel cross, his resurrection from the dead, and his ascension into heaven. The gospel is the only way for us to have a relationship with God. It is our only hope, and it is also the message that we seek to proclaim to the world.

The Holy Spirit is the supernatural presence of God and we depend on Him to fill, empower, and transform us.
Acts 2:38-39  John 14:25-26

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is the giver of life and convicts the world of sin. He guides us into all truth. He persuades us to repent and confess Jesus as Lord. He gives us faith and new birth. The Holy Spirit is also the active agent in our sanctification - conforming us to the likeness of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit empowers believers for Christian commitment and service. Our comfort is that He is with us always.

God’s amazing grace motivates us, changes us, and defines how we relate to God and others.
Ephesians 2:4-5  Titus 2:11-13

Before we can speak about what we as Christians must do we must speak about what God has already done for us. God began his redemptive plan and initiated a relationship with us while we were still dead in our sins. We have been given what we do not deserve: we have been spared the eternal wrath of God for our sins, given the free gift of eternal life and brought into a relationship with God himself. We do not deserve this and we could not earn this. And this grace is what motivates us, changes us and defines how we relate to God and others.

The local church is the community where we live and grow as the family of God.
Acts 2:42-47  1 Timothy 3:14-15  Ephesians 3:10-11

The local church is a community where we live and grow. It is where we are being transformed into the likeness of Christ. We have been adopted as Son’s and daughters and we are part of God’s family. And we are a unique community where God’s manifold wisdom is made known. While we all are part of the church universal, we also see in Acts the beautiful picture of the priority of the local church, God’s household.

Our mission with Sovereign Grace Ministries is to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ to the unconverted in our homes, neighborhoods, and world.
Matthew 5:13-16  Acts 1:8

We have a mission personally, and corporately and we do not do this alone. We participate with one another in this local church, but we also join with Sovereign Grace Ministries in supporting church plantings throughout the country and the world. We work together to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ in our homes and communities, and we participate with Sovereign Grace Ministries in the global mission of preaching the gospel in all the world.
