Eight Great Sermons From 2008

We get to feast on God's Word every Sunday.  This post is far more important than the best music of 2008.  Thought I would sift through my stack of sermon notes from the last year and pick out the ones that have had the most enduring effect on me.  Here they are...

It was too hard for me to rank these in order of value or benefit, so they are listed chronologically:

  1. 1/13/08 - "The Majesty of the Three in One God" - Mark Mullery.  Do you remember our series of messages on the Trinity?  Don't forget the three part explanation of God's Triune nature: 1. There is one God.  2. God exists as three persons.  3. Each Person is fully God.
  2. 2/10/08 - "Hidden in Plain Sight" - C. J. Mahaney.  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God (the Father), and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all...
  3. 06/08/08 - "How to Live Like An Exile" - Vince Hinders.  "Remember who you are..." and you will do honorable good deeds as a witness to the gospel.
  4. 7/20/08 - "The End Really is Near" - Lou Gallo.  Persevere in light of eternity.  Live in light of eternity.  God's glory in light of eternity.
  5. 08/21/08 - "The Overflow of Passion" - Mike McKinley.  A highlight from the youth retreat.  Mike's service to us will not be soon forgotten.
  6. 08/31/08 - "The Ambassador's Job Description" - Merritt Anderson. We have a Savior who wants us to be go-to people.  A great reminder and encouragement to do the work of an evangelist.
  7. 09/21/08 - "Why the Election Matters...And Why it Doesn't" - Mark Mullery.  A reminder that I need to be taught, and I need to be given perspective on the significance and insignificance of national politics.
  8. 12/07/08 - "God as Father: Understanding the Doctrine of Adoption" - C. J. Mahaney.  A huge reorientation to how we think about salvation.  "To be right with God the judge is a great thing but to be loved and cared for by God the Father is greater." (Packer)
