  • Choral Ensembles at Co-op! (3rd-5th, 6th-8th, High School)

Ryan Holland plans to offer a high school choral ensemble next year at Co-op from 3:30-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Now, I need your help with these next two...

Kristen Jorde would like to offer a choral ensemble for 3rd - 5th graders. I sent an e-mail out to the families of 3rd - 5th graders.  I received 8 responses with a split between preferences for 1:00 and 2:15 (and a number of the 2:15 people said they had a conflict with dance.)  And Kristen will most-likely need some childcare help with her new baby.  She also needs a decent amount of students to make this work.  I don't know where to put her to set this class up for success.  PLEASE let me know if you are interested and what time will work for you.  (and if you could help with some childcare.)  I can ask her about the dance class weeks, but it seems like that would split right in the middle.  Do the weeks before dance, then take the weeks off for dance, then start back after dance?  I don't know if that would work for her, but let me know your thoughts (and I will ask her as well).

Also, Hope Burrows would like to do a 6th-8th grade choral ensemble.  She said that 2nd period (10:10) and 4th period (1:00) works for her, and she too will need care for her little one.  Who is interested?  What time?  And can we work out some childcare?

If both 3rd-5th and 6th-8th were at 1:00, would that help?  If 6th-8th were at 1:00 and 3rd-5th were at 2:15, would that work for you all?

I really want to find the right spot for these choral groups, so please let me know your interest and what works for you. Please let me know in the next couple of days as we really need to solidify the schedule!

    Thank you!

    Susan

  • New Co-op Parking Meeting!

Thank you all so much for your input re. Co-op parking!  We think we have come up with a plan.

Please come to ONE of the below listed meetings to hear and "see" the plan and ask any questions you might have.  ALL TEENAGE DRIVERS MUST COME TO ONE OF THESE MEETINGS!

    1. This Thursday - March 11th - 9:40 a.m. - in the Basement Auditorium.  Feel free to bring your kids.  (If you are serving in Co-op at that hour, please plan to attend Sunday's meeting.)

    2. This Sunday - March 14th - 12:15 p.m. - in Room 202.  (Due to room size, just one parent without kids would be ideal, but we can be flexible if you have a need.)

Our hope and plan is to implement this new parking plan the following Thursday, March 18th.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Susan

  • Co-op Fees going up

The per student registration fee will be going up to $40/student this year, and many of the classes will have an additional $5 - $15 fee to help to cover the cost of copies (based on how many copies each class makes).  We are currently charged close $2500 for copies, which is about half of our budget.  With pizza parties, cleaning fees, copies, coffee, tea, creamer and supplies, our fees need to go up a little to cover our costs.  If you have any questions or concerns about this, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Susan

  • Pictures needed for slide show

Elisabeth McCoy is making the slide show for this year's Co-op Year End Event.  She needs your class pictures.  Please take some pictures of your class and send them or given them to Elisabeth BY APRIL 8TH!!!  (Unlike me - smile) Elisabeth is happy (in fact she WANTS) to look through a CD full of pictures to pick out her favorites!  So snap away, load onto a CD, and give to Elisabeth pronto!!  We would like all classes represented, but we can't do it without your help!

So take pictures BEFORE SPRING BREAK!! You have THREE WEEKS before spring break!  (We need pictures from the Tuesday classes as well.)

    Thanks!

  • Study Hall

About this time of year we always have some struggles with study hall.  Below are our study hall policies.  Please review these policies with your student(s).  In discussing this with our current study hall monitors, here are some things they would like everyone to be reminded of.

Students are not bringing enough work to keep them busy the whole period.  Then the students find it very hard to remain quiet.  Please ensure that your student brings enough work and/or a book to read.

Students are talking and passing notes, which is very distracting to those who are working.  Also, students are not letting the monitor know where they are going when they leave.  A student needs to be in class, in study hall, or with their parent at all times.  Of course a student may leave and use the restroom and return promptly, but they must let the monitor know where they are going.  A student may not leave early from study hall unless they are meeting their parent.  Please remind your student to communicate clearly with the study hall monitor.

    1.  No talking (including no sign language), no whispering, and no note passing.
    2.  No electronics (No music, no games. No headphones. Laptops with no sound and no headphones are allowed for schoolwork only.)
    3.  If you need to leave study hall for any reason (i.e. bathroom, talk to Mom, etc…), please tell the study hall monitor where you are going and return promptly. If you need to leave early, you must communicate this clearly with the monitor.
    4.  Bring enough schoolwork to do or a book to read to keep busy the whole period.
    5.  No food is allowed in study hall. Covered drinks are allowed, but this policy will change if spills (onto schoolwork or computers) occur.

If you have any questions or concerns or suggestions, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Susan

  • To Teachers re. Copies!

Hi Current and Next Year's Teachers!

    1. Could you tell me approx. how many copies you make at church for your Co-op class(es)? (per week or per month or however is easiest for you)

    2. If we need to lower the number of copies allowed to 50 copies a week, how would that affect you?  Would you need to increase your fee (next year) to cover outside copies?

    3. I just ran some numbers and found out that if each of our classes actually made 100 copies a week (which, thankfully, they don't), our copy costs alone would be over $5,000! (Yikes!)

    Thanks for your feedback!

  • Used Curriculum & Book Sale

There will be a Used Curriculum & Book Sale on Saturday, May 22nd.  More details to come.

  • Updated 2010-2011 Co-op schedule

There's an updated 2010-2011 schedule available under Co-op Documents.

Kathy Rossell is going to offer both Advanced Speech (11:20) and "regular" Speech & Comm. (1:00).  There's a 5th-7th grade Latin I at 1:00.

Seita is offering a "Music" class at 9:00, and I'm in communication with Ryan Holland who is considering offering a high school choir. (That is not on the schedule as we have not figured out times.)  (And Debbie Nelson is going to hold on her Music Appreciation class for now.)

David Wheeler is going to offer Pre-Calc. again at 8:30 on Tuedays, and Jean Pittman is offeirng Alg. 2 at 11:00 on Tuesdays.

And German is not going to be offered now.

  • Co-op Parking

Thanks to all that came to today's Co-op parking meeting and to those who sent their thoughts via e-mail.  We will be discussing this more and will be setting up another meeting to talk about what we think might work and to get your feedback.  Until then, we are going to keep doing what we've been doing (side lot and upper lot).  Please drive slowly on the church grounds and pay close attention to students crossing from the side lot to the side door.  Please ask your teen drivers to drive very slowly and carefully.  We are going to change our parking - but we're just going to leave it like this until we can consider more carefully the suggestions we have received, discuss it more, and have another meeting with you all.  We will most likely set up two times for the "same meeting" to make it as easy as possible for every family to attend one of them.  One will most likely be on a Thursday and the other will most likely be after church on a Sunday.  We hope these times will serve every one.

If you have suggestions for a convenient meeting time, please let me know.

If you have any questions or would still like to send some thoughts via e-mail, please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Susan
