Friday evening I'll be channeling my second-string football playing years by attending the Lake Braddock vs. Robinson varsity football game (7:30 pm at Robinson). These two schools represent some of our five15 friends and one five15er will be playing in the game (Caleb McCoy, #42, Lake Braddock).
Did you know that with almost 8,000 students between them, Robinson and Lake Braddock are the two largest schools in Virginia? What a mission field we have within a few miles of the church. These fields, according to Jesus, are white for harvest (John 4:35).
Small steps like attending a game can help us get out into the community that our church is in. Who knows what connections we will make? God does. A few weekends ago, Kristin and I attended a concert in Vienna. Although I went to the concert only thinking about the music I was about to enjoy, God ordained that a young man would strike up a lengthy conversation with us before the show started. In that conversation, we found out that he wanted to get back into going to church every Sunday and we were then able to invite him to our church and to lunch afterward. Will he come? I don't know. But is it not an expression of God's love and providence toward that man that God ordained him to be standing next to believers at a concert who God would use to draw the man back to Himself?
This is also a great opportunity for us to support five15ers who attend these schools.
So, who else is going? I'd love to meet up with you there. Let me know (call, email, Facebook, etc.)! Admission is $5. If that presents any kind of an obstacle to you attending, please contact me directly so I can help.
