Prepare For Easter

We've got a new book in the bookstore by Nancy Guthrie called Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross.   It's a collection of sermon excerpts by some of the great preachers of church history, including Martin Luther, John Calvin, Charles Spurgeon, J. I. Packer, John Piper, R. C. Sproul, C. J. Mahaney, and more.

Each reading is only a couple pages long, the perfect length to complement your daily quiet time.  And these little readings are a great way to prepare your heart for Easter by remembering the death and resurrection of our Savior.  Some samples:

"The surprise about Jesus the Messiah is that he came to live a life of sacrificial, dying service before be comes a second time to reign in glory.  And the surprise about discipleship is that it demands a life of sacrificial, dying service before we can reign with Christ in glory."  (John Piper,  p. 19)

"Sin was the cause of all our Savior's sufferings.  Our sins twisted the crown of thorns; our sins drove the nails into his hands and feet; on account of our sins his blood was shed.  Surely the thought of Christ crucified should make us loathe all sin."  (J. C. Ryle, p. 59)

"Our Lord in his great mercy prayed for their forgiveness... In a sense, every pardoned sinner who ever lived is an answer to Christ's prayer." (John MacArthur, p. 65)
