  • Details on Kids Performing at the Event

    Dear Co-op Parents,

Many of your children have been working on performances for the Year End Event on May 4. The event is 5:30-8:30pm. If your child is in one of the stage performances, they need to be at the building at 5:00pm.

Many of the young children are in more than one performance. Please see the order of performances below, and help your child figure out his/her own schedule for the evening. The children will start out by sitting with the teacher of their FIRST performance, and when that class is done, the child will join their next class that is performing. We practiced that as much as possible today during rehearsals, but would appreciate parental reinforcement! In general, kindergarteners will meet their parents at the back of the auditorium immediately after they finish their final performance. Older children will sit with teachers for the evening. Teachers, please plan on sitting with your class to help enforce order!

If needed, please try to help your child think through ways to achieve FAST costume changes. Each stage performance is only 3 minutes long. He/she may have to wear the same costume the whole evening, with only time to add or remove a hat.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I have no doubt that it will be a fantastic evening!

    Thanks,
    Laures Merryman

  • Year End Event Feedback

Thanks to everyone who made the Year End Event so successful and so beautiful. We would love to hear any feedback that you have. If there was anything that you would like to see changed etc..., could you let us know? Feel free to bounce back to this post/email or to talk to any body on the Event team. (Marlene, Laures, Val, Cherie and her food team, me - and Lisa Hess helps the team as well). Also, if you would like to have a bigger role in the Event next year, we would LOVE to have you. • Important Parent Info for Year End Event!

    Dear Co-op Parents,

Many of your children have been working on songs, skits and poems for the Year End Event on May 5. The event is 5:30-8:30pm. If your child is in one of the stage performances, they need to be at the building at 5:00pm.

Many children are in more than one performance. Please see the order of performances below, and help your child figure out his/her own schedule for the evening. The children will sit with their teachers for the duration of the “upstairs” part of the evening, except Kindergarten and the US Presidents class, who will meet their parents at the back of the auditorium immediately after they finish their performance. Teachers, please plan on sitting with your class to help enforce order!

If your child is in more than one performance, when they walk off the stage, they will join the next group with which they will be performing. The children received instruction about this during the rehearsals yesterday, but please make sure they remember and understand this.

If your child needs to change costumes, the large toddler room will be available for non-private changing. Please try to help your child think through ways to achieve FAST costume changes. Each stage performance is only 3 minutes long.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I have no doubt that it will be a fantastic evening!

    Thanks,
    Laures Merryman

  • Payment needed tomorrow for Year End Event

    From Lisa Hess:

    Hi Families -

Just want to send out a reminder that tomorrow (Thursday, April 25th) will be the last day to bring your $10 family payment and to sign up to bring a dessert for the Year End Year End Event (approximately 1/2 of our food budget comes from these payments!)

We still have a few slots left for cakes. It would be greatly appreciated if you haven't signed up for something already, if you would consider signing up for this so that we can have plenty of desserts to choose from for this wonderful event.

    Thank you!

  • Clean-up Help for the Year End Event

    Dear Co-laborers at Co-op,

The Year End Event is right around the corner, and I still need many more volunteers for clean-up. The cleaning will begin at 8:30 and will likely be finished no later than 10:30. There have been years when we've finished at 9:30!

Please let me know as soon as possible if you're available to help.

    Thanks!

Valerie - on behalf of the Year End Event Planning Team

(From Susan here on behalf of Marlene: We also need a few teens and a couple of adults on Friday afternoon after testing (May 3) from 1:00-2:30 to help hang some signs in the BA. Please let Susan or Marlene know if you can do this. Thanks!!)

  • Year End Event Invitation, Desserts and Payment

It is that time of year again . . . to sign-up for what dessert you would like to bring for the Year End Event. On Thursdays, during the month of April, there will be a table in the basement lobby where you can sign-up for the different dessert(s) that we will be offering. It would be great if each family could sign-up for at least one item. Also, in order to help with the cost of food, each family is requested to give $10, which will be collected at the same table. If you have any questions about the desserts or payment, please feel free to email Lisa Hess at lisajewelhess(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks!

  • Year End Event

You are cordially invited to our annual Co-op Year End Event. You are welcomed and encouraged to invite extended family members.

    Sunday, May 6, 5:30-8:30.

The evening program will begin promptly at 5:30 in the main auditorium followed by table presentations, fellowship, appetizers and desserts in the lower level.

We will be collecting $12 per Co-op family (to help cover the cost of the food) on April 12 and April 19 at Co-op. (Cash or checks made out to Sovereign Grace Church) If you know you are bringing a lot of guests, you are welcome to contribute more. We are also in need of homemade desserts (like last year) for this event. There will be sign-up sheets for specific dessert categories at Co-op on April 12 and April 19.

As always, we need quite a few volunteers to help – during the actual event and for clean up directly after the event. (See separate blog post.)

Our theme for the evening is the Middle Ages. Students and adults are invited to dress in period attire.
There is a printable invitation available under Co-op documents.

If you have any questions, please let me know (bounce back to this message or e-mail Susan Thorson.)

  • Year End Event Correction

I posted the wrong times for the Year End Event. The Event will be Sunday might, May 6, from 5:30-8:30 pm!

    Thanks!

  • Rehearsal Dates for the Event Stage Presentations

One more thing that I was supposed to add to my last blog post...

If your class is going to do a stage presentation, since there is no Co-op on the Thursday before the event due to Testing, rehearsals for stage presentations will be held on Thursday, April 26 and Tuesday May 1 (during your class period).

  • Year End Event

    Hi Co-op Teachers,

Our Co-op Year End Event will be on Sunday, May 6 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. (If you are unfamiliar with this event, please let me (or another member of the Year End Event Team)  know and I will fill you in.) As a reminder, this is a great event to invite grandparents and other extended family!

    1. Would you like your class to do a 2-3 minute stage presentation?

    2. Would you like your class to have a table display in the basement?

PLEASE LET US KNOW BY MARCH 15TH.

    A few details...

    1. Due to time constraints, stage presentations need to be only 2-3 minutes long. (If this is a problem, please talk to Laures Merryman.)

    2. We have a max. number of stage presentations (10-12) we can fit into the program, so please let Laures (or me and I will forward to her) know as soon as possible if you would like your class to present something on stage.

    3. We are so sorry, but we are unable to accommodate slide shows and or slides (except foreign language translation) for your stage performance. They add a lot of work (for us) (collecting them, preparing them, having them in the correct format to use in the auditorium etc...) and sometimes confusion if things get "off" at the projection booth.

    5. If you plan to do a foreign language recitation, we have found that 2-3 minutes can seem a bit long. Please talk to Laures and work with her to plan an ideal length.

    6. Regarding table displays – please tell Marlene Mika (or me and I can forward to Marlene) how many tables you need, and if you need a divider wall behind your table(s) for hanging items (hanging items must be able to be supported by t-pins) (ask Marlene for details on t-pins). Also, if you had a display last year, do you need any changes to your positioning, or can we go ahead with the same set up?

Laures Merryman will be organizing the stage presentations, and Marlene Mika will be organizing the table presentations. So – e-mail them directly on what you want to do or bounce me back and I will forward your response to them. You will be hearing more details from them in the next few months.
For stage presentations - Laures will need ALL COMPLETE scripts, words, music, anything at all you are hoping to use by APRIL 1ST!!

    Thanks so much,

Susan on behalf of the Year Event Team                                                                                                       (Laures Merryman, Marlene Mika, Bonnie Hinders, Val Cymes and myself)

  • Pics for the Year End Event Slide Show

Teachers - this is from Patricia Jones (she and Heather are going to do the slide show this year). They are traveling at the end of March, so she would like to get a jump start on this. She says:

Please turn in pictures by March 15th. Teachers can e-mail me the pictures to this address: pmjnova(at)gmail(dot)com or put them on CD and drop off at Co-op (I will put a small basket labeled "SLIDE SHOW CD's" on the Co-op table.)

    Thanks!

  • Pics and Slide Show for the Year End Event

    1. We need someone to put together the slide show for our annual Year End Event. Please let me know if you would be able to do that.

    2. Teachers, please be ready to send a few pics of your class to the appropriate person (when we know who that will be) for the slide show.

    3. We will be posting the details and asking for responses soon re. stage presentations and table presentations.

    4. If you'd be willing to put together a simple program (paper "handout" program with order of events etc..) for the Event, let me know.

    5. The Year End Event Team consists of myself, Bonnie Hinders, Laures Merryman, Marlene Mika and Val Cymes. If you'd be willing to help in other capacities, or if you have ideas or suggestions, please speak to any of us. We'd welcome your thoughts and/or your help.

    6. The team has not met yet, but I believe we will once again have a small, per-family charge for the Event. This charge helps to cover the cost of the food. If you have any thoughts or concerns about that, please let me know.

    Thanks so much.

  • Pics from the Year End Event

Karl Weaver took tons of great photos at the Year End Event and has posted them on these websites. I believe that you can order copies and/or download the ones you want. (Not sure how it all works. If you have questions, ask the Weavers.)

    Enjoy!

    Thanks, Karl!

  • Pics needed for Year End Event Slide Show

Hi Teachers (and others who are willing to help,)

The Weavers (Karl) are going to put the slide show together for the Year End Event (thank you so much)!

In order for your class to be in the slide-show, you need to give Karl some pictures. And he needs them by April 3! So that gives you this coming up week and the following week to take some pics and put them on a disc and give them to Karl. I am going to find out from him if he is willing to take a bunch of pics, or if he'd rather you pic a few of your best.

If there are some free moms or students with cameras that would be willing to take pics over the next couple of weeks and give the pics to the Weavers, that would be very helpful. Outside lunch time pics are great to have, inside lunch pics, lobby pics etc.. are all great.  So any help you can give would be great.

I'm sorry for the rush on this. It's my fault. So - click away and get Karl your pics!!

    Thanks

  • Year End Event

If you are interested in being more involved with the Year End Event or have thoughts or suggestions regarding the event, there will be a meeting THIS THURSDAY (Dec. 9) at 10:15 in the Basement Aud. (The Christmas Sale will be going on in there, so we will grab some chairs and be over on the side somewhere.)  I would estimate the meeting taking between 30 and 45 minutes. If you cannot attend but have thoughts, please e-mail me.

    Thanks!

    Susan

  • Year End Event Post-Evaluation

Thanks to all for participating in our Co-op Year End Event this past Sunday night.  We would love to hear any input/comment/suggestions you might have. Please send any thoughts to me.

One specific question would be - should we officially end at 8:30 next year?  (5:30-8:30) (It was 5:30 - 9:00 this year.)  We had extended the time in response to the request to have more time downstairs, but it definitely "felt done" this  year at 8:30.

Thanks to all that helped set-up and take-down.  It went so smoothly this year.

    Let me know your thoughts!

    Susan

  • Important Year End Event Details!!

(Also, if your student is in a stage presentation, they must sit with their class in the designated seating.)

Remember costumes are welcomed and encouraged.  Our time period is post Gold-Rush to present day.

Bakers - I will be sending you a separate e-mail reminding you of the details.

The festivities begin in the upstairs auditorium.  Remember - there will be lots of yummy food, so plan for a full and enjoyable evening.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.

I still need a few Seniors to greet.  Let me know if you can come.  (Juniors, I might be asking you!)

    Looking forward to Sunday!

    Susan

  • Major help needed!

We need some significant help with clean-up for the Co-op Year End Event on Sunday, May 2nd.  Clean-up will be from 9:00-11:00 p.m.  We have about 10 people (thank you).  Last year we had 30!  Please let me know if you can help and who specifically from your family can help.

    Thank you!

  • Co-op Year End Event

You are invited to our Co-op Year End Event on Sunday, May 2nd, 5:30-9:00 pm.  There is an official invitation under Co-op Documents if you would like to print one or give one to family members.  Here are a bunch of details:

    1. In order to cover our expenses, this year we need to collect $10 a family by April 26th.  (I'll be collecting at Co-op.)  If you know that you are bringing quite a few guests and would like to contribute more, that is not required but would be welcomed.

    2. There will be a dessert sign-up at Co-op the next two Thursdays.  We need 28 cakes and 36 dozen cookies (which equals 9 people making 4 dozen cookies each and 28 people making one cake each or 14 people making 2 cakes each etc..).  The cookies need to be homemade chocolate chip cookies (your favorite recipe...but no nuts please), and the cakes need to be "Modern American" or "Family Favorite" (such as chocolate, chocolate chip, red velvet, white, yellow, pound, angel food...) (no nuts please).  We ask that you do not cut your cake and that you deliver it (and the cookies) the day of the event).

    3. We need help!

    Saturday, May 1st...

10:00 am - ironers and a few table people (4-5 people)

11:00 am - hangers of boards and other misc.(putting up backdrop?) (7-8 people)

1:00 pm- a few fresh people to help with whatever still needs to be done (4 people)

    Sunday, May 2nd...

    9:00 pm -11:00 pm - kitchen-, vacuum-, trash-, table-clean-up help (12-15 people).

Moms, dads, and teenagers are needed and welcomed!  If you know when and for what you are available, please let me know.  Otherwise, many of you will hear from Val Cymes soon asking you to serve in a specific capacity.

    Thank you!

    Susan

  • Stuff needed for the Year End Event

There are some things we could use for the Year End Event.  Below is a list and the contact person.

suitcases and posters -  Jeanine Babyak
(Empty) Soda bottles with caps (Jeanine or Laures)

     Flat white sheets (Laures)

    Confederate flag (Laures)

    Union flag (Laures)

    Checkered table cloths (Laures)

Vintage memorabilia from the early to mid-1900s such as old appliances,
an original Barbie doll, etc.  Please let Laures Merryman or Jeanine
Babyak know in advance of the event what you have to display, and it
would be preferable for these vintage display items to be delivered to the church building on Saturday, May 1.

    Thanks!

  • Pictures needed for slide show

Elisabeth McCoy is making the slide show for this year's Co-op Year End Event.  She needs your class pictures.  Please take some pictures of your class and send them or given them to Elisabeth BY APRIL 8TH!!!  (Unlike me - smile) Elisabeth is happy (in fact she WANTS) to look through a CD full of pictures to pick out her favorites!  So snap away, load onto a CD, and give to Elisabeth pronto!!  We would like all classes represented, but we can't do it without your help!

So take pictures BEFORE SPRING BREAK!! You have THREE WEEKS before spring break!  (We need pictures from the Tuesday classes as well.)

    Thanks!

    Susan

  • Co-op Year End Event Slide Show

I'm looking for someone to put together the slide show for this year's Co-op Year End Event.  If you have any experience and interest, could you let me know?

    Thanks!

    Susan

UPDATE - A number of you volunteered and we're all covered for this now.  Thank you so much!

  • Year End Event

Our Annual Co-op Year End Event will be on Sunday, May 2nd from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.  This is a great event to invite grandparents and other extended family.

I've just sent an e-mail to the teachers re. stage and table presentations.  Let me know by March 14th if you want your class to have either one of these at the event.

You'll be hearing from Val and/or me in the next couple of months with requests for help.  We are going to need some cookie bakers - but our biggest needs will be the day before the event for our MAJOR ALL DAY SET-UP,  and the evening of the event for clean-up.  Just wanted to give you a heads-up on this.

Also - a reminder for next year's Co-op teachers - I need all course descriptions by the end of this month!

    Thanks!

  • Year End Event this Sunday - 5:30

    Hello Co-op Families,

There is some confusion on the time of the event.  The Co-op Year End Event is this Sunday, May 3rd AT 5:30 p.m.!!!!

    The event runs from 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.

If your child is in a stage performance - he/she/they need to be at the building by 5:00 p.m.

All students performing will sit with their class on the left or right hand side of the auditorium.  (see Laures Merryman for assigned seats for students) During stage performances, "weapons" should be kept by parents.

Here is the order of performances, so you can plan accordingly if costume changes are needed.  (Also speak to Laures if your student needs help with this.)

We suggest that you give your family a snack before coming, and then there will be lots of good food available at the event.

    History 1st-2nd
    Kindergarten
    Dance
    Spanish I & II
    Intermediate Sign Language
    History 3rd/4th
    Drama
    Elementary Sign Language
    French II & IV
    History 5th/6th

    Thanks!

    2. Book Sale/Curriculum Sale (May 16th) - help the day before on Friday, May 15th, and help the day of (including carting books away at the end for donation)(e-mail me for specifics).

    3.  Graduation Reception Help - Saturday, May 30th - various two-hour positions (maybe 2.5 hours) (including kitchen overseer) between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.  We need lots of help.  Please let me know if you can serve this day at all!
